A slower day as we organize, store and buy groceries. It started with a nice breakfast and an interesting orange.
Then later in the day the sun was out and the clouds were nice. About 60F.
And just because I like panoramas (360 Degrees!), here is where we are staying:

So a few Dailylife Wife photos to start the day in Kingman, AZ:
It was actually a lot more vivid before we left our hotel room…We stopped at Love’s ($0.10 off a gallon!) and about nine miles further down the road we were getting this for mileage and range.
On to the final leg of US 93!
And 28 miles further down the line we were getting this:
Our range went from 350 miles to 520 miles!

Oh well, now I have a reason to go back after that sign! I have travelled all of US 93 and it didn’t kill me! (US 93 in /\/\onTana! was a horrible piece of road for a long time and “Pray for me: I Drive 93” bumper stickers were seemingly required equipment!)

So after this the traffic got quite heavy and neither of us took anymore photos. We had a nice lunch with Keith and Shirley, then took the truck and Forester and had another 100 miles of traffic! We only lost sight of each other a couple of times. Glad we have cellphones! Once we were in Cottonwood we separated and I got the trailer and pulled it through Clarkdale instead of Old Town Cottonwood because I was thinking traffic would be bad there. Am I glad I did! Now there is apparently another traffic circle near Old Town. And I thought the streets were already narrow! We got the trailer mostly hooked up, in our regular spot! And they have overflow parking for a few vehicles so I don’t have to find somewhere for the truck. So Sunday is sorting out and putting away. Not much room for stuff in here!

ps: it dropped to 41F last night and the furnace worked all night long. Keep your fingers crossed!
Back on the road early…we drove out of the rain in about 30 minutes.
This is what happens when you can’t play with the focus on the iPhone whilst driving. Nice looking hat, though.
There is a nice little rest area between Fillmore and Cedar City I try to stop at. On the way down with the trailer I just sat at a picnic table in the sun here for a while.

Between Cedar City and St. George the clouds can be intriguing.
Once you get to St. George you have to descend onto the Arizona Strip: 20 miles or so of rugged Interstate that cuts off the corner of Arizona. There are two Arizona signs here…

Eventually we exited the AZ Strip with a few miles of Arizona, where we got gas at $2.25.9!!! Then it was into Nevada at Mesquite.
An hour or so across the desert and there is Las Vegas in the haze.
A dash through Vegas and there is Lake Mead, created by Hoover Dam.
And here is a stunning photo of Hoover Dam! Or it would be if they didn’t decide it was safer with no-see-through sides on the new, post-9/11 bridge. Before that you could drive across it. After 9/11 you could still drive across it after your vehicle was searched. Then they built this massive high bridge that you can’t see anything from.

Rough country, then flat country and ROUGH roads, ending up in Kingman, AZ. Not quite as rough as I40 from Kingman to Flagstaff…
And once we are safely in our motel in Kingman we go looking for Dinner under a full moon. On top of the tree.
All in all it wasn’t a bad day. We need to get going in the morning so we can get my truck and get up to Cottonwood and Clarkdale to set up the trailer while it is still daylight.

This fine (well, wet and rainy, mostly) New Year’s Day we departed from /\/\onTana! on our almost annual trip to snowbird in Arizona. I previously took the trailer down because we were worried about inclement weather…most forecasts showed LOTS of snow, which has not, as of today, arrived. They did not show the big windstorms from a week or two ago…
Anyway, we are packed to the hilt or thereabouts in our new Subaru Forester!
We quickly (about four and a half hours) crossed into Idaho.
There on top of Monida Pass, where the border is, is also this old highway bridge from before the Interstate. It is still in frontage road use over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks.
It pretty much rained all day, and part of tonight. It is suppose to be mostly sunny tomorrow. (Photo by the Dailylife Wife!)
While it is less here, once we got refueled a couple of times our average mileage and the range went up a lot. We were geting about 31.5MPG through Salt Lake City.
Another border!
We rolled into Springville, which is a suburb of Provo, Utah, a couple minutes past 5pm. We left our house and hit 10th Avenue South right at 7:30am, which is making pretty good time for 619 miles. The drive through SLC wasn’t too bad. There were a fair number of cars, but relatively few trucks, and it was a nice drive even though it was raining. It stopped a bit after we cleared the southern edge of SLC. After checking in we went to dinner!
The food was great, but they are understaffed and it took a while to get seated. Service was fast after that.
All in all it wasn’t too bad of a day to start 2026! I hope your’s was a well!

This is a photo my darlin’ wife found, taken by me just shy of 41 years ago. Today is our 41st anniversary, and this was three or four days later than the wedding on our Honeymoon in Lucerne, Switzerland.
I believe it is on the Kappellbruke, or Chapel Bridge. There was a really long one we’d walk across. I remember having fondue, and going to McCheaper’s, a blatant rip off of McDonalds decor that would have gotten them sued and closed down in the US! The menu was different: they had a hotdog in a bread cone, on a stick, and you could put ketchup and stuff into the cone beside the hotdog. I don’t remember having one, but it did look interesting!

Or at least, Robyn and I are starting the Photo A Day thing again. It has only been a little over two years since our last posts.
There have been a few nice nights this year for Northern Lights. Here are a few from November 11th this year. The first one is a cellphone photo from our backyard. The rest are from Bootlegger Trail.
You can see stars in these photos, but the only constellation I will confirm is the Big Dipper in this next one.
It was more visible as it often is through a camera than with the naked eye.
