Day 215: 2010 Great Falls Photowalk pt 5

Day 214: A Cornfield Meet?

A cornfield meet is when two trains run into each other head on, because they are on the same track…of course, if they weren’t on the same track they’d…never mind. I got to see two trains meet at the switch to the spur to the malting plant.  The one on the right is a grain […]

Day 208

Another UP locomotive: this one is so big it has two engines! (Click to enlarge to read it, BACK to return!) The space between the engines, as mentioned above. Again, if you see this view and it is moving… ~Curtis, homeward bound to /\/\onTana! {!-{>

Day 207: On the other side of the Union Station…

The opposite end of the Union Station has a very nice collection of locomotives and rolling stock  (railroad cars). First is the X-26, a jet engined locomotive made in 1960.  The jet turbine (used to create electricity instead of a diesel engine) powered locomotive was able to pull 735 loaded cars…a train seven miles long! […]

Day 204: Restoration to be

A Saturday morning project in Ogden. They are trying to restore this old 4-6-0 Denver and Rio Grande locomotive. Where the steam pushes on the piston that makes the wheels go round. … One of the leading wheels. …… One of the big driving wheels. Where the smoke comes out! This part is usually inside […]

Day 203: Outside

More at the Union Station, outside. A little 55 ton (?) Utah Central switcher and caboose. An end view. The engineer’s view. A wrecker train with crane, scrap car and … ….rotary… …plow??? The whole consist! U.S. Army tank car and bay window caboose! ~Curtis, soon to be back in /\/\onTana! {!-{>

Day 202

More at the Union Station, inside. If you enlarge this you can see it is from Barrow Steel…hmmm… A caboose inside the museum, fully climbable! Outside the inside caboose. There is also a fairly nice model railroad running. ~Curtis, soon to be back in /\/\onTana! {!-{>

Day 201

More from outside of the Union Station.  A 40 & 8 box car from France…just click on the second photo and read the whole thing.  BACK to return! I have seen these in other states. http://fortyandeight.org/ http://www.nsrm-friends.org/nsrm56.html http://wasteam.railfan.net/merci.html http://www.skylighters.org/encyclopedia/fortyandeight.html ~Curtis, soon to be back in /\/\onTana! {!-{>

Day 200

On Saturday I braved the near 100F temperature and headed up to Ogden to the Union Pacific Station and the Utah Railroad Museums.  They have a an old 0-6-0 steam engine with tender and two cabooses set up outside as a playground…kids can crawl all over these things!  They must have not heard about litigation […]
