A coupe of photos of a pet peeve of mine: Windmills. Windmills are touted as environmentally friendly/responsible/cost effective…NONE of them would be up and running (when they do…ignoring required downtime for maintenance, the wind doesn’t always blow, even in /\/\onTana!) with out massive subsides. The blades are only lasting half as long as predicted, at best. It seems that bugs and bird hitting the leading edge at up to 100 mph as the blade turns erodes a lot more than they thought, and recycling is almost nonexistent for the worn out blades. They go in landfills. The tower and concrete foundation are often just left after the windmill has reached its expiration date. And going back a bit to “bugs and birds” literally MILLIONS of birds, including eagles and endangered species, are killed annually by windmills. The vast fields of hundreds of windmills ruins scenic views, even if the moving shadows of the blades is intriguing on the ground.
The good side? They seem to be MARGINALLY better than solar farms. They can work at night..
Near Judith Gap, the first big farm I know of in /\/\onTana! This only shows a part of the 120+ windmills:
