Day 198

After a nice, if somewhat rainy, drive to Kalispell and back for Avis I decided to try my new Olympus OM to Canon EF-M lens adapter.  This adapter is a simple tube with the appropriate mounts at both ends, and leaves the lens completely manual while on the M2.  This is actually a pretty good thing, since it is almost a totally manual lens* when on the Olympus OM cameras, too!  Anyway I took my M2 and put my Olympus Zuiko 50mm F3.5 Macro on it.  Then, as the sun was shining on some of the Dailylife Wife’s flowers, I hit the backyard.

This photo is resized only.  These flowers appeared by themselves in the flowerbed, and she doesn’t know what they are.  Pretty, though.

This is a 100% crop (just cropped, not resized).  This is about the size of a dime.  Click on the photos to see them full sized.  BACK to return!

Here is another resized photo.

And here is the 100% crop.

Day1619802b

Now I was interested in the differences between this and the EF-M 22mm F2.0 Canon lens, which is highly rated for the M2.  Not quite a perfect comparison, since it is less than half as long as the Olympus lens.

And the 100% crop.

Day1619803b

They all look pretty sharp!  I think the 22mm with some extension tubes will be quite a macro lens, but of course, Canon has just come out with an EF-M 28mm macro lens with a built in light for illuminating the subject.

And now, most of our subject matter, via the 22mm.

Day1619804

Since goofing around has always resulted in interesting (and sometimes better!) photos, here it is the other way: from the bottom up.  The clothes line and clothespin bag are just for atmosphere…

*OM lenses are almost manual: the aperture stays wide open until you trip the shutter when on an Olympus OM camera, then it closes down the aperture, takes the photo and opens the aperture up again.  This makes for a brighter image to compose with in the viewfinder.  On the M2 you turn the aperture ring until it is where you want it and the image gets darker on the LCD screen.  It stays there while you take however many photos you want at that setting.  An adapter that would activate the aperture like on the OM cameras would be great, but it is not likely to be made.
