Day 104: The Big Island Day One, pt 6

On the way back to the Boat from the Lava Tube we stopped at the Mona Loa Macedamia Nut Factory (now owned by Hershey’s!).  Between the gift shop restrooms and a macadamia nut ice cream cone, we didn’t take any photos!  I don’t think anything was running anyway.  Here is a link to the website…It was pretty good ice cream!

We got a small tour of the locals’ beaches on the way back.

All of these are through the bus window…no time to Stop!

Even though there is narrow road with houses on one side and the shore on the other…

…this is a lot more like you think of as being Hawai’i, rather than the usual big city touristy stuff.

It is kind of rocky, but very picturesque!

There is a restaurant on the other side of the road from here.  It is reputed to have the freshest seafood in the world!  This is one of the pens they raise it in…

And then a quick glimpse of the Pride of America and it is back through security and onto the Boat.

Where it is Penguin Day.

A little time for relaxing on the balcony, watching the clouds go by…

…and then those marvelous thrusters turn the ship in it’s own length and off we go to Kona on the Morrow!

So ends our little expedition out of Hilo.
