Day 80: The Pineapple Express, part 2!

The Dole Plantation is mainly a demonstration of what they do and did now.  The crops are exhibits.  Pineapple and sugar cane have pretty much moved away from the Islands.  Here is sugar cane and bananas (the short plants…)

More of the same.

Cheap farm labor.

A nice green hedge as we roll along.

They grow Ginger and other ornamental plants along side the tracks.

It was a partly cloudy and rainy day, but we mostly caught the sunshine while on our excursion.  This field was recently harvested and was regrowing.

Young pineapple and an old machine.

The route is a long stretch of track with a loop at both ends.  The end away from the station is a well manicured park, next to a reservoir.

There are full signs and signals at each grade crossing…

Red dirt, bananas and ginger.

Another typical, beautiful Hawaiian view.

Ginger in a field.

Sugar cane.

All too soon we arrive back at our station.  A nice little glimpse into what the history of Hawai’i.  Most pineapple now comes from Central America.
