Day 317

Last Sunday my Father-In-Law Bill Weir passed away.  I don’t have many photos of him.

June and Bill, Gate and Crow Pub, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC, Canada, 2003.

Leslee, Caitlin, Lauree, June, and Bill,  Salt Spring Island, BC, Canada, 2003.

Bill, June and Leslee, Igotnotaclue, 2004.

Bill, Leslee and June, Kirsten’s High School Graduation, Great Falls, Montana, 2005 (all three photos).

He served for several (Four?  Five?  Six?  I never was able to pin him down…) years in Europe in the Royal Canadian Artillery in World War II, both in Italy and I believe the western front in France.  He was for at least part of that time a motorcycle courier.

Caitlin, Leslee, Bill, June, and Kirsten at the dinner table.

I never heard him say a bad word about the U.S. using the atom bomb on Japan: he was home on thirty days leave after his many years of combat in Europe, and at the end of that thirty days he was to report to Vancouver for deployment to the Pacific Front and the Invasion of Japan.  He, and a few million others, got to stay home instead.

June, Kirsten and Bill.

He loved golf and was the first to admit, as Carson Napier once said, that it was a mental disorder.

He was a crusty old goat, and I will miss him, too.
