Day 287

I had the Alternate Trunk Monkey helping today!

We hemmed and we hawed and we sawed and we did it!  Actually the dimensions and the right angles came out so close to plan that it scared me.  We cut this 1/4″ plywood top for the water heater compartment from a bunk base and slapped it on.  The front lifts out giving full and easier-than-original access.  A rubber floor guard for all of the wires is coming.

A countertop will be installed with the top of it just below the window frame, leaving the emergency exit and window opener easy to access.  The counter will be six feet long and about 24″-26″ wide, leaving a 24″-26″ clearance to move around it.  The whole space is 50″ wide, so we aren’t sure yet what width we will leave.

A view of the storage compartment, partially filled.

The $0.00 ends next: butcher block counters are running around $200 to $300 at Home Depot!
