Day 18

As I arrived back at the house after taking the photos of the deer, I saw the UPS truck going around the corner down the street.  My new 12mm F2.0 Rokinon lens was here at last!  I got it for Christmas from the Dailylife Wife, but it turns out Adorama sent one in the wrong mount.  So it has taken a couple of weeks, but it is here at last!

DAY1701805

This is a totally manual lens, so I even have to focus it, just like we used to do!  Here it is on my Canon M2, without the lens hood.  On my crop sensor M2, this 12mm is like a 19.2mm lens on a 35mm film camera: pretty wide!  And f2 is really fast, too!

DAY1701806

I took several photos with it while I was looking it over.  Effectively at f8 pretty much everything from five feet to infinity seems to be in focus, so this looks to be just as fun as everyone in the reviews said it would be!

DAY1701807

A nice close view of may MacBook Pro.

DAY1701801

Since I mainly wanted this lens to photograph the stars at night, I wandered into the backyard about 10pm.  It was mostly clear.  This first photo is at f2 and 10 seconds.

DAY1701802a

Here is a full sized crop of the stars and part of a power line above.  I had to adjust the focus just a little bit after this photo.  Click on it to enlarge it; BACK to return!

DAY1701802b

This is again f2, but at 8 seconds.  The stars are nice and sharp points of light.  I have done nothing to these photos other than resizing and making the 100% crop details.

DAY1701803a

100% crop.

DAY1701803b

And f2 and 6 seconds.

DAY1701804a

100% crop.

DAY1701804b

I think I will be staying up and out late a lot this year.

After it warms up some more.
