Day 244: Back to Glacier!

While on our trip to Glacier National Park we stopped in to see the Glacier Lodge, in, of course, (East) Glacier!  You can see the front of the Lodge to the right of Red Jammer 79.

The Jammers are used to tour the Park, with the drivers, or Jammers, as tour guides.  The canvas top unties and the whole thing can be open on nice days.  They used to be manual transmission vehicles, and since they date from the 1920’s <?> they were under powered and the driver had to “jam” the gears.  Hence: Jammers, for driver and vehicle.  A few years ago they were updated to a big engine and automatic transmissions.

Here Ken examines another old vehicle used by the Lodge.  Just right for large families.  An eight door station wagon!

Once inside the Lodge, the view is…large…this is a two photo panorama of the East end.

This is another two photo panorama of the West end.

Outside is a nicely landscaped flower garden.  Note the Big New Sante Fe freight train passing by the depot.

Lots of nice flowers, even this late in the season.
