Day 183, Arriving in Skagway!

In actual order we went to Ketchikan on the 10th, Juneau on the 11th, and Skagway on the 12th.  But they sure don’t show up that way here!

Here is a Marine Highway Ferry, early in the morning.  click to enlarge, aww, you know the drill by now…

An artful gaze stern-wards in the early morning.

The same angle, if not view, at sunrise!

Looking forwards on our approach to Skagway.  Skagway is actual about 60<?> miles from Juneau, but there is no road.  Yet.  Some are calling for one.

The White Pass and Yukon RailRoad awaits our disembarkation…getting off the boat, that is.

I said it was early!

This is the view over Skagway.  The WP&Y runs along this valley on the right side for a ways, then makes a half circle to the left and goes up the side of the mountains on the left.

This is how a ship is moored these days…by hand (mostly!)…a small line is thrown from ship to shore.

That is tied to a larger line.

That is in tied to an even larger line, to be hauled up by those men in the life jackets.

At last they get the BIG line, drop it over a mooring post, and a winch on board the ship pulls it tight.

A Marine Highway Ferry…there sure are a lot of those  running by up here.

One of the Ferries loading.
