Day1413201

(1/350s f/4.5 ISO160 188mm +1/2 stop Canon 7D)

A mangy elk in Mammoth!

Day1413202

(1/350s f/5.6 ISO160 150mm +1/2 stop 7D)

A few more elk outside of Mammoth.  Hopefully their coats will improve over the summer…

Day1413203

(1/90s f/16.0 ISO160 229mm 7D)

That is the road heading towards the Lamar Valley and Cooke City.

Day1413204

(1/350s f/6.7 ISO160 72mm 7D)

Billy Goat Gruff.

Day1413205

(1/500s f/8.0 ISO160 300mm 7D)

North of Gardner there is a campground with lots of mountain goats.

Day1413206

(1/750s f/8.0 ISO160 146mm 7D)

So I saw most of the major mammals in Yellowstone, except for wolves and bighorn sheep.  The sheep were there but moved off as I drove up…and they were as far away as that bear was!

Day1413207

(1/500s f/6.7 ISO160 200mm 7D)

A pair of Common Mergansers, male and female, in the river near Chico Hot Springs.

Day1413208

(1/500s f/8.0 ISO160 300mm 7D)

All in all it was pretty nice day of wildlife photography.  Of course being there during the weekend, and before Labor Day, means the roads were pretty empty in Yellowstone, which is always a bit plus!
