(February. 2009) Bibione is another resort town an hour’s drive north of Venice. There were some interesting houses on the way there from Caorle.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Bibione has a Mall.\u00c2\u00a0 Of course, it was Sunday.\u00c2\u00a0 This was the last car I saw for almost an hour…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

There were lots of interesting buildings around.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Most were pretty colorful, and I think were kind of like condos or time shares…but they could have just been summer rentals.\u00c2\u00a0 These big picture windows look out on…the back of the Mall.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Either way, there was no one around.\u00c2\u00a0 Each of these covered things was a carport for one very small European car.\u00c2\u00a0 Most looked like they’d be ivy\/plant covered in the summer.\u00c2\u00a0 Did I mention it had started snowing?\u00c2\u00a0 Harder?<\/p>\n

Here is the back of another campground.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a ritzy place: note the air conditioners.\u00c2\u00a0 Camping in Europe is different than here.\u00c2\u00a0 People will put in a trailer or (very) small house into a fairly permanent campsite slot in a campground.\u00c2\u00a0 Some are camp trailers with extensive awnings and full furniture and all the comforts of home.\u00c2\u00a0 It is the equivalent of us having a cabin in the woods or a cottage by a lake, just a lot more people and campers in a much smaller area.<\/p>\n

Along about this time I was getting a little spooked.\u00c2\u00a0 You don’t drive in Europe for an hour or more and NOT see anyone else…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The buildings and hotels were all closed and shutters were hanging by one hinge.\u00c2\u00a0 No one was around.\u00c2\u00a0 No businesses were open.\u00c2\u00a0 No lights were on.\u00c2\u00a0 There were no cars.\u00c2\u00a0 This town was spooky.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I started to feel like World War III had happened and I was the only one left with the fallout coming down…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then: Other cars!\u00c2\u00a0 Someone else survived!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Then it was back to the beach.\u00c2\u00a0 It is a beach resort, after all.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

And another half hour of no one.\u00c2\u00a0 This place was depressing.\u00c2\u00a0 When I finally found a coffee shop open across the parking lot from this place, which offered pizza, ice cream, a Germany Breakfast Bar, and Good Germany Bitburger Beer, but was closed, I didn’t even go in.\u00c2\u00a0 It had to have been pretty bad coffee to survive WW III!<\/p>\n
