(February, 2009) Let’s jump back a little over a year, to my visit to the beach the day after my trip into the Dolomite Mountains to Cortina, Italy<\/a>.\u00c2\u00a0 This is on the way to Caorle, a beach resort…but not in February…<\/p>\n

It was a cold and rainy day.<\/p>\n

\"\" <\/a><\/p>\n

It got worse as the day went on.\u00c2\u00a0 Lots of little narrow roads before I got there.\u00c2\u00a0 Sarah Jane, my omnipotent GPS, was very helpful.\u00c2\u00a0 That’s her in suction cupped to the windshield.<\/p>\n

Eventually I reached Caorle, a beach resrt town, with a fishing history.\u00c2\u00a0 The canal through town was full of boats.\u00c2\u00a0 More later…<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

After drivng around and around, and seeing part of the waterfront\/harbor<\/a>, and some interesting apartment buildings<\/a>, I found a parking spot (no other cars in it) and made my way between two closed up hotels.<\/p>\n

Looking at the beach.\u00c2\u00a0 Normally (that is, in season) this beach would be full of beach chairs, umbrellas and, I was told, young ladies from Germany.\u00c2\u00a0 Hmmm.<\/p>\n

Yup, Cait, I can’t get rid of the waterfowl no matter where I go!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

If you turn around from where I took the photo above, this is what you see.\u00c2\u00a0 The colors are pretty muted here, but I bet in the summer if is pretty bright!\u00c2\u00a0 (Click a few times to enlarge it; BACK to return!)<\/p>\n

This is what most of the beach, at least near the water, is made up of: billions of seashells.<\/p>\n

It was cold and windy when I took these shots.<\/p>\n

I had to take these and retreat off the beach while I could still feel my fingers enough to hold the car keys.<\/p>\n

I was later told I should have just stuck my fingers in the ocean: it is still 70F with a wind chill below freezing!<\/p>\n
