We took the bus into town. \u00c2\u00a0It seems like using school busses in the summer to get people from the ships to town and back is a good and cost effective way to move tourists (remember, all the cars, busses and trucks come in by sea!) but apparently some of those on the cruise ships object to this and think it is beneath them, or something. \u00c2\u00a0Weird.<\/p>\n The Visitor Center for Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge (a wee bit bigger than the Lee Metcalfe NWR south of Missoula!) is the building on the right. \u00c2\u00a0BTW, it was raining.<\/p>\n The biggest exhibit there in this grey whale. \u00c2\u00a0 Note the 3D map of Kodiak Island at the bottom.<\/p>\n (A five photo panorama! \u00c2\u00a0Click to enlarge; BACK to return!))<\/p>\n (Samsung Galaxy 5s)<\/p>\n They found this whale on the beach (dead) a few years ago.<\/p>\n Planning ahead they quickly buried \u00c2\u00a0it on the beach for five years so Nature could strip the flesh away.<\/p>\n Then they dug it up and strung it together. \u00c2\u00a0Now it hangs from the ceiling. \u00c2\u00a0Pretty neat, actually!<\/p>\n (Three photo panorama!)<\/p>\n There are other exhibits, like these bears in the stream.<\/p>\n A three photo panorama of a different angle.<\/p>\n And Owls.<\/p>\n And a Bear Market showing what the bears eat!<\/p>\n (Not an actual market, nor is that an actual bear…)<\/p>\n Since we weren’t going out to see actual bears ($$$$$) we decide to head back to the ship in time to keep if from leaving without us.<\/p>\n Side Thrusters.<\/p>\n It was still raining, and got a bit foggy. \u00c2\u00a0This is the Kodiak Airport.<\/p>\n ***<\/p>\n The Dailylife Wife, dressed for rain.<\/p>\n Me, dressed for the rain, without my glasses again. \u00c2\u00a0I couldn’t see through the water on them.<\/p>\n It was a tad breezy, and I couldn’t tell if the water on my glasses was from rain or the spray.<\/p>\n Eventually it broke up as we got out to sea.<\/p>\n The Moon was fine.<\/p>\n A nice sunset.<\/p>\n Then a mad dash in for the two-for-one Drink Special: Pink Salmon Martinis.<\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<\/a><\/p>\n
